Evaluation of Amnesty International’s 2022/23 Turkey Report
As the Association for Security Research and the Rule of Law, we conducted a detailed examination of Amnesty International’s 2022/23 Turkey report to better understand and highlight human rights violations in Turkey. In our evaluation, we found that while the report addresses political, ethnic, and gender-based victimization, it does not sufficiently cover the situations of the thousands of individuals affected by the state of emergency decrees following the 2016 coup attempt.
As a result of our work, we determined that serious human rights violations, such as widespread dismissals from public service, unlawful detentions, and international abductions, were overlooked in the report. In light of these findings, we called on Amnesty International to ensure that all forms of victimization in Turkey are comprehensively addressed in future reports.
